Dagmar Nick was born in 1926 in Breslau, East Germany, a city of the River Oder, which is now Wroclaw in Poland. Her father was Edmund Nick, a composer, and her mother, Kaete Nick-Jaenicke, was an actress and signer. Nick’s first book, Martyrer (Martyr), was published in 1947. She has published ten books of prose and thirteen books of poetry, including Das Buch Holofernes (The Book of Holfernes), In den Ellipsen des Mondes (In the Eclipse of the Moon), and Wegmarken (Road Signs).
